27th October 1959 was opening day for ITV in the East of England. Under their chairman Aubrey Buxton, Anglia soon got a great reputation for drama and their legendary natural world programme 'Survival'. Anglia bought Cosgrove-Hall animation from Thames in 1993. The following year they were taken over by Meridian Broadcasting, who then merged with United Newspapers and subsequently acquired HTV in 1996. UNM failed to agree a merger with Carlton in 2000. However, Granada stepped in and bought Meridian and Anglia. It has been known as ITV Anglia since 2004.
